Winchester | Model 88 | .308 Winchester | Lever-Action Rifle The Winchester Model 88 is a distinctive American sporting rifle that combines the traditional handling characteristics of a lever-action rifle with several modern design features. Introduced in 1955, the Model 88 departed from Winchester's conventional lever-action designs by incorporating a rotating-bolt action, detachable box magazine, and one-piece stock. Chambered in .308 Winchester, the Model 88 was designed to accommodate modern, high-pressure, rimless cartridges. Its streamlined receiver, hammerless appearance, and smooth lever operation made it a popular alternative to traditional bolt-action hunting rifles. This example, serial number H259111, features the Model 88's characteristic one-piece walnut stock, steel receiver, and traditional sporting configuration. The rifle is equipped with a Stoeger 4x33 fixed-power riflescope, marked No. 191494, mounted with Weaver scope rings. The Winchester Model 88 was manufactured from 1955 through 1973 and remains a desirable collectible among Winchester enthusiasts, particularly for its unusual combination of lever-action operation and modern rifle design.
