Romanian Cugir | GP WASR-10/63 | 7.62x39mm | Single-Stack | AKM-Pattern Semiautomatic Rifle The Romanian GP WASR-10/63 is a Romanian-manufactured, AKM-pattern semiautomatic rifle produced by CN Romarm SA/Cugir and imported into the United States by Century Arms International (CAI). Manufactured at Romania's historic Cugir arms factory, these rifles reflect the country's longstanding involvement in producing military-pattern small arms based on the Soviet Kalashnikov design. Romania began manufacturing Kalashnikov-pattern rifles during the Cold War, developing a domestic arms industry that supplied both its own military and international customers. The Cugir factory became one of the country's principal small-arms manufacturing facilities, producing Romanian variations of the AK platform that developed a reputation for rugged construction and dependable operation. The WASR series was developed for the American commercial market, incorporating the familiar Kalashnikov operating system into a semiautomatic sporting rifle. The GP WASR-10/63 became particularly recognizable during the 2000s, offering American firearms enthusiasts a Romanian-produced AKM-pattern rifle with traditional military styling. This example retains the single-stack magazine configuration associated with Romanian WASR sporting rifles imported into the United States. Designed to accept narrow-profile single-stack magazines, the rifle is accompanied by one 10-round single-stack magazine and one 5-round single-stack magazine. Its magazine configuration is consistent with the sporting import characteristics of the WASR series, although the rifle's exact manufacture and import dates have not been established. Chambered in 7.62x39mm, this rifle features a 16.5-inch barrel, stamped-steel receiver, and long-stroke gas-piston operating system. The rifle retains its traditional wood forearm but has been fitted with a TAPCO adjustable synthetic buttstock and Hogue pistol grip, combining classic Romanian AK styling with updated furniture. The receiver is marked CN Romarm SA/Cugir, Romania, with import markings identifying Century Arms International, Georgia, VT.
