Smith & Wesson | M&P15 Sport II WTP | 5.56 NATO | Semi-Automatic Rifle | We the People Edition The Smith & Wesson M&P15 Sport II is an American-made, AR-15-style semi-automatic rifle chambered in 5.56 NATO. Introduced in 2016 as an evolution of the original M&P15 Sport, the Sport II incorporated several refinements while retaining the practical design and established operating system that helped make the M&P15 series one of Smith & Wesson's most popular modern sporting rifle platforms. This example is the distinctive M&P15 Sport II WTP (We the People) edition, featuring the patriotic inscription “We the People” on the right side of the lower receiver, above the magazine well. The inscription references the opening words of the United States Constitution and distinguishes this rifle from standard-production M&P15 Sport II configurations. The M&P15 series traces its origins to 2006, when Smith & Wesson entered the modern sporting rifle market with its own AR-15-pattern platform. The Sport II followed a decade later, adding features such as a forward assist and ejection port dust cover, which were absent from the original Sport model. Chambered in 5.56 NATO, the rifle features a 16" barrel and a gas-operated, semi-automatic action with a rotating bolt. The 5.56 NATO chambering also accommodates commercially available .223 Remington ammunition, providing versatility for recreational and sporting applications. The rifle features a traditional A2-style fixed front sight assembly, incorporating an adjustable front sight post and triangular front sight base that also serves as the gas block. At the rear, the rifle is equipped with a Magpul MBUS folding rear sight, mounted to the upper receiver's Picatinny rail. This combination provides a traditional AR-style sighting arrangement with a convenient folding rear aperture.
