Savage Arms | Axis | .308 Winchester | Bolt-Action Rifle | Boyds Laminated Thumbhole Stock The Savage Axis is an American-made bolt-action sporting rifle developed to offer dependable performance, practical accuracy, and straightforward construction. Introduced in 2010, the Axis quickly became a popular choice among hunters and recreational shooters, building upon Savage Arms' longstanding reputation for producing accurate, affordable sporting rifles. Originally introduced as the Savage Edge before being renamed the Axis, the rifle features a conventional bolt-action design, a detachable box magazine system, and Savage's button-rifled barrel technology. This example is chambered in .308 Winchester and features a 22" barrel with a matte black finish on the barrel and receiver. The .308 Winchester is one of the most established sporting rifle cartridges in North America, widely appreciated for its versatility in hunting and recreational target shooting. The standout feature of this rifle is its distinctive Boyds Featherweight Thumbhole laminated hardwood stock, featuring a striking orange-and-gray laminate pattern. This aftermarket-style stock gives the rifle a custom appearance that differs significantly from the standard synthetic-stock Axis configuration. The Boyds Featherweight Thumbhole design incorporates an ergonomic thumbhole grip, raised cheekpiece, and contoured forearm. Its laminated hardwood construction provides an attractive combination of contrasting wood layers while offering dimensional stability compared with conventional solid hardwood stocks. The combination of the orange-and-gray laminated stock and matte black metalwork creates an eye-catching two-tone appearance. The stock's thumbhole configuration also provides a comfortable, consistent hand position when operating the rifle. The Savage Axis utilizes a traditional bolt-action operating system with a detachable box magazine, making it a straightforward and practical sporting rifle. Its 22" barrel provides a conventional hunting rifle configuration well suited to the .308 Winchester cartridge. With its distinctive Boyds stock, established Savage bolt-action platform, and popular .308 Winchester chambering, this rifle represents an attractive customized variation of the Savage Axis.
