Winchester | Model 12 | 16 Gauge | Pump-Action Shotgun | 28" Barrel | Full Choke The Winchester Model 12, affectionately known as the “Perfect Repeater,” is one of the most celebrated pump-action shotguns in American firearms history. Introduced in 1912 and designed by Thomas Crossley Johnson, the Model 12 established a reputation for its smooth operating action, durable all-steel construction, and exceptional handling characteristics. Originally designated the Model 1912, this shotgun became a mainstay of American hunting and sporting traditions. Produced in 12, 16, 20, and 28 gauge, the Model 12 was widely used for upland bird hunting, waterfowl hunting, trap shooting, and recreational shooting. Based on Winchester's historical serial number records, serial number 1401168 dates to approximately 1954, placing this example within the desirable pre-1964 production era. This example is chambered in 16 gauge and features a 28" barrel with Full choke. The 16 gauge has long been appreciated by upland hunters for its balance of manageable recoil, effective shot payload, and handling characteristics. The 28" Full-choke configuration represents a traditional mid-century field arrangement. The Model 12 incorporates a hammerless, bottom-loading, side-ejecting design with a machined steel receiver and tubular magazine. Its slide-action mechanism became particularly well known for smooth operation, helping establish the Model 12 as one of Winchester's most successful sporting firearms. Another distinctive feature is its takedown construction, allowing the barrel and magazine assembly to be separated from the receiver for transportation, cleaning, and maintenance. The shotgun features traditional wood stock and forearm furniture paired with a blued steel barrel and receiver. The classic appearance and craftsmanship of these mid-century Winchester firearms continue to attract collectors and enthusiasts of vintage American sporting shotguns.
