Ruger | Ruger-57 | 5.7x28mm | Semi-Automatic Pistol | Black Oxide The Ruger-57 is an American-made, semi-automatic pistol chambered in the distinctive 5.7x28mm cartridge, combining a lightweight polymer frame, high-capacity magazine system, and modern ergonomic design. Introduced in 2019, the Ruger-57 expanded the market for pistols chambered in 5.7x28mm, offering an alternative to the FN Five-seveN platform. Manufactured by Sturm, Ruger & Co., the Ruger-57 features a 4.94" alloy steel barrel with a 1-in-9" twist rate and a black oxide-finished steel slide. The pistol utilizes an internal hammer-fired, delayed-blowback operating system designed around the characteristics of the high-velocity 5.7x28mm cartridge. Originally developed by FN Herstal, the 5.7x28mm cartridge is known for its lightweight projectiles, relatively flat trajectory, and mild recoil characteristics. Its unique performance has made it popular among recreational shooters and enthusiasts of modern handgun designs. The Ruger-57 incorporates a black glass-filled nylon frame with textured gripping surfaces and an ergonomic grip profile. Despite its full-size configuration and 20+1-round capacity, the pistol weighs approximately 24.5 ounces unloaded, making it relatively lightweight for its size. The pistol is equipped with a fiber-optic front sight and adjustable rear sight, allowing the shooter to make elevation and windage adjustments. The slide is drilled and tapped to accommodate a compatible optic mounting plate, providing the option of installing a miniature red dot sight. Additional factory features include an ambidextrous 1911-style manual safety, reversible magazine release, visual chamber inspection port, and an integrated Picatinny-style accessory rail beneath the barrel.
