Thompson/Center | Contender | .222 Remington | 10" Octagonal Barrel | Leupold M8-2x Scope The Thompson/Center Contender is an American-made, single-shot, break-action firearm platform recognized for its interchangeable-barrel design and longstanding popularity among handgun hunters, target shooters, and firearms collectors. Introduced in 1967 and designed by Warren Center, the Contender became one of the most recognizable specialty handgun platforms of the late 20th century. One of the Contender's defining features is its interchangeable-barrel system, allowing owners to utilize a wide variety of calibers and barrel configurations on a single serialized frame. The original Contender barrels were offered in several lengths and chamberings, with the 10" octagonal barrel becoming one of the platform's most recognizable early configurations. This example is a Thompson/Center Contender 10" octagonal barrel chambered in .222 Remington, featuring a traditional blued-style octagonal profile and wood forearm. The octagonal barrel configuration is particularly appealing to enthusiasts of the original Contender design, offering the distinctive appearance associated with the platform's earlier production years. Introduced by Remington in 1950, the .222 Remington cartridge earned an outstanding reputation for accuracy and became a favorite among varmint hunters and competitive benchrest shooters. Often referred to as the "Triple Deuce," the cartridge enjoyed considerable success in precision shooting before the widespread adoption of the .223 Remington. The barrel is equipped with a Leupold M8-2x Extended Eye Relief scope, a fixed 2-power handgun optic designed specifically for use with extended-eye-relief handgun shooting positions. The Leupold M8 series is well regarded for its durable construction, optical quality, and traditional styling, making it an excellent complement to a classic Thompson/Center Contender barrel. Offered as a complete scoped barrel assembly with wood forearm, this lot provides Contender owners with an opportunity to add a classic .222 Remington octagonal barrel configuration to their collection.
