Colt | Mustang Pocketlite | .380 ACP | 2.75" Barrel | Cerakote Stainless Finish | Semi-Automatic Pistol The Colt Mustang Pocketlite is a compact, single-action semi-automatic pistol chambered in .380 ACP, developed as a lightweight alternative to traditional steel-frame defensive handguns. The Mustang series originated in the mid-1980s as a smaller variation of Colt's Government Model .380, drawing inspiration from the classic Model 1911 while incorporating mechanical changes suited to its reduced dimensions. The lightweight Pocketlite variation appeared in 1987, combining the familiar styling of Colt's single-action pistols with a compact aluminum-alloy frame. After the original Mustang series was discontinued during the 1990s, Colt revived the Mustang Pocketlite in 2011, updating the design with modern manufacturing techniques and refined internal components. The reintroduced model retained the traditional exposed hammer, frame-mounted thumb safety, and single-action trigger system while incorporating improved machining and a lightweight construction. This revival renewed interest in Colt's small-frame .380 pistols at a time when compact concealed-carry handguns were becoming increasingly popular. The Mustang Pocketlite utilizes a short-recoil, locked-breech operating system, distinguishing it from many small .380 pistols that rely on simple blowback actions.
