Springfield Armory | XD-S Mod.2 OSP | .45 ACP | 3.3" Barrel | Black | Optics-Ready Pistol The Springfield Armory XD-S Mod.2 OSP is a compact, striker-fired semi-automatic pistol chambered in .45 ACP, developed as part of Springfield Armory's popular XD family of defensive handguns. The original XD-S series debuted in 2012, introducing a slim, single-stack platform designed to accommodate full-power centerfire cartridges in a handgun considerably smaller than traditional service pistols. In 2018, Springfield introduced the redesigned XD-S Mod.2, incorporating improved grip ergonomics, revised slide serrations, and an enhanced trigger system while retaining the compact dimensions that established the original model's popularity. The XD-S Mod.2 OSP (Optical Sight Pistol) expanded the platform by incorporating a factory-milled slide designed to accept miniature red-dot optics. Springfield initially introduced the optics-ready XD-S Mod.2 in 9mm during 2020, followed by the 3.3" .45 ACP OSP variation in October 2021. This development reflected the growing popularity of slide-mounted electronic sights on compact handguns, allowing shooters to install compatible optics without aftermarket slide machining. The OSP configuration features a low-profile optics mounting interface designed for direct installation of compatible micro red-dot sights. When an optic is not installed, a removable cover plate maintains the slide's streamlined appearance. The pistol also incorporates a white-dot front sight and serrated U-notch rear sight, providing a conventional iron-sight arrangement. Mechanically, the XD-S Mod.2 utilizes a short-recoil, locked-breech operating system, a hammer-forged barrel, and a dual captive recoil spring assembly. Its black polymer frame features Springfield's enhanced grip texturing, while the grip safety and integrated trigger safety provide passive safety mechanisms without requiring a separate manual thumb safety. The combination of a slim grip profile, compact dimensions, and .45 ACP chambering distinguishes this model within Springfield's XD-S lineup.
