SIG Sauer | P290 | 9mm Luger | Nitron Finish | SIGLITE Night Sights | DAO Pistol The SIG Sauer P290 is an American-made, micro-compact semi-automatic pistol introduced in 2011 during a period of growing demand for compact 9mm concealed-carry handguns. Developed as one of the smallest centerfire pistols in SIG Sauer's lineup at the time, the P290 combined the company's established handgun engineering with a compact design intended for discreet carry and backup applications. Unlike many competing compact pistols that adopted striker-fired mechanisms, the original P290 utilized a hammer-fired, double-action-only (DAO) operating system. Its recessed hammer, rounded exterior contours, and substantial stainless-steel slide reflected SIG Sauer's emphasis on creating a compact handgun with traditional mechanical features. The pistol also incorporated a locked-breech operating system and dual recoil springs to accommodate the 9mm Luger cartridge within its relatively small dimensions. This example is the P290-9-BSS configuration, featuring a black Nitron-finished slide, black polymer frame, and SIGLITE night sights. The original P290 was produced for a relatively short period before being succeeded by the redesigned P290RS, which introduced restrike capability and refinements to the trigger system. As a first-generation model, the P290 represents an interesting stage in SIG Sauer's development of compact defensive handguns before the later introduction of the P365 series. The pistol exhibits noticeable evidence of previous use and handling, including heavy finish wear on the barrel hood and some edge wear along the exterior metal surfaces. The bore remains bright and shiny. Of particular note, a previous owner appears to have etched a spider and spiderweb design into the grip near the thumb position. This appears to be a personalized modification rather than a factory-applied marking. The overall wear pattern suggests the pistol may have been regularly carried as an everyday-carry handgun, although its actual carry history is unknown. Extras & Features Two magazines Original SIG Sauer hard case Original factory paperwork A good example of the first-generation SIG Sauer P290, retaining its original DAO operating system and compact 9mm configuration. The visible carry-related wear and personalized grip etching give this particular pistol a distinctive appearance.
