High Standard | R-108 Sentinel | .22 LR | Nine-Shot Double-Action Revolver The High Standard R-108 Sentinel is a vintage American-made, nine-shot revolver chambered in .22 Long Rifle, manufactured by the High Standard Manufacturing Company of Connecticut. Originally introduced during the mid-1950s, the Sentinel series became one of High Standard's most recognizable revolver designs, offering an economical and lightweight alternative to traditional steel-frame rimfire handguns. While High Standard was best known for its successful line of semi-automatic target pistols, the Sentinel helped establish the company in the revolver market and became popular for recreational shooting, informal target practice, and small-game hunting. The R-108 variation, produced during the late 1960s and early 1970s, represents one of the later developments of the original Sentinel design. The series featured a lightweight aluminum-alloy frame, steel barrel and cylinder, and a nine-shot swing-out cylinder, providing greater ammunition capacity than conventional six-shot revolvers. Its double-action/single-action mechanism allows the hammer to be cocked manually or operated through the trigger. The R-108 also incorporated a spring-return ejector system and conventional two-piece grips. These features, combined with the model's distinctive styling and relatively lightweight construction, make the Sentinel an interesting example of mid-century American rimfire revolver manufacturing. This particular High Standard R-108 Sentinel, serial number 2137677, is in fair condition with noticeable cosmetic wear from previous use. The revolver exhibits a heavy cylinder drag line, scratches to the frame and trigger guard, and surface rust on the hammer. The bore is dirty, although the revolver functions mechanically. An aftermarket hard case is included.
