Davis Industries | Model D-38 | .38 Special | Double-Barrel Derringer The Davis Industries Model D-38 is a compact, American-made, two-shot derringer chambered in .38 Special. Manufactured by Davis Industries of Chino, California, the D-38 was part of the company's line of affordable, easily recognizable pocket pistols produced during the late 20th century. Davis Industries was established in the early 1980s and became known for its economical handguns, including small-caliber semi-automatic pistols and over-under derringers. The company ceased operations in the late 1990s, making its firearms representative of a distinctive period in American handgun manufacturing. The Model D-38 utilizes a traditional over-under barrel arrangement, allowing two .38 Special cartridges to be loaded into separate barrels. Its compact design incorporates a break-open action, an exposed hammer, and a single-action trigger mechanism. The pistol uses a rotating or alternating firing mechanism to discharge each barrel in sequence, offering two shots without a conventional magazine or cylinder. Davis manufactured these derringers with zinc-alloy frames and steel barrel components, using a straightforward design intended to keep production costs relatively low. The Model D-38 is one of the larger-caliber offerings in the Davis derringer family, which also included models chambered in .22 LR, .22 Magnum, .25 ACP, and .32 ACP. This particular Davis Industries Model D-38, serial number D109022, remains in good condition. The pistol exhibits some edge wear and small scratches to the finish, consistent with previous handling and use. Its compact over-under configuration and .38 Special chambering make it an interesting example of Davis Industries' discontinued American-made derringer lineup.
