Smith & Wesson | Performance Center Model 629-7 | .44 Magnum Hunter | 7½" Barrel | Revolver The Smith & Wesson Performance Center Model 629-7 .44 Magnum Hunter is a specialized big-bore hunting revolver built on Smith & Wesson's legendary N-frame platform. The original Model 29 helped establish the .44 Magnum as one of America's most recognizable handgun cartridges following its introduction in 1955. In 1979, Smith & Wesson introduced the stainless-steel Model 629, bringing enhanced corrosion resistance to the proven large-frame design. Over the following decades, the Model 629 became a popular choice among handgun hunters and enthusiasts seeking a powerful, durable revolver capable of handling both .44 Magnum and .44 Special ammunition. This Performance Center Hunter variation takes the traditional Model 629 design further with a distinctive 7½" barrel, contrasting matte black and stainless-steel finish, and an integral Picatinny-style optics rail. The Hunter configuration was developed with handgun hunting in mind, combining the substantial weight and strength of the N-frame with modern sighting options. Its red ramp front sight and adjustable rear sight provide a conventional sighting arrangement, while the integrated rail allows for the installation of an aftermarket optic. Smith & Wesson's Performance Center models are recognized for their specialized configurations and additional attention to fitting and performance compared with standard production offerings. This example features black synthetic grips, a six-shot cylinder, and a substantial 57.5-ounce factory-specified weight. It remains in excellent condition, showing only a minor cylinder drag line consistent with normal rotation. The revolver is accompanied by its original soft case.
